Providing valuable community support at home, for the lonely and isolated.

What is CoCo?

Cleobury Compassionate Communities (CoCo) is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), governed by a Board of Trustees.

We offer a befriending service, free of charge, providing 1:1 companionship and practical support to the most vulnerable and isolated adults in our community; often elderly struggling with mental health and confidence.

We can also offer respite to someone who looks after their partner with a long term condition such as dementia, Parkinson's disease, stroke or similar.
Additionally, we hold a Good Grief Café in collaboration with Cleobury Hub, and CoCo Coffee Mornings at the Market Hall, both on a twice monthly basis.

Our mission

CoCo exists to reduce loneliness in the community and to prevent vulnerable adults from becoming socially isolated. We support people to stay independent and connected to their community through 1:1 volunteer befriending and by signposting to local groups and resources.

Who are our volunteers?

CoCo volunteers come from varying walks of life. They may be retired or still working, but importantly they recognise and want to respond to the needs of their own community.

On becoming a trained and Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checked member of the team, volunteers are matched with one CoCo client with whom they are best suited.

The match is made on the basis of interests, personality and geography, as well as what the client needs and what the volunteer can offer. We request a visit of 2 hours per week but this will vary.

Befriending relationships can last for many months and often until end of life and can be profoundly important and of immeasurable value to the client.

Who do we befriend?

Clients of CoCo are referred to us by GPs, nurses, social workers, care agencies and of course family & friends.

Referrals can be taken for any adult patient of Cleobury Mortimer Medical Practice. Referrals are generally made for those whose age or health has brought about a degree of loneliness and isolation or vulnerability, or where someone needs support to remain independent and at home.

CoCo has supported my husband and me as his carer. There is someone there to listen now and to help us to cope with a complete change of life.

I was already feeling very low when my volunteer came visiting me, but later when my husband died, I couldn’t have got through it without her.
